Apple Inc. has began a move to expand its business frontier as it plans to embark on the production of self-driving cars with high-performance batteries by 2024, as reported by Reuters.

Apple tends to embark on productions strategy of a battery technology aimed at reduce cost and increase vehicle’s range, according to the report.

The year 2024 will be the set target for Apple’s launch of its car production project with the name Project Titan. The project which was initially scheduled to commence 2014 but didn’t really move on as expected as Apple was said to had switched from car production to software production for other companies. However, the company has fine tuned strategies to produce its first car in 2024, the report further explained.

In his tweet, Elon Musk responded to the recent decisions of Apple to manufacture and sell electric self-driving vehicles by saying he offered to sell Tesla to Apple during the darkest days of the Model 3 program. In his words, he reached out to Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, to discuss the possibility of Apple acquiring Tesla for one-tenth of its present value but the CEO refused the offer.

He tweeted as follows”During the darkest days of the Model 3 program, I reached out to Tim Cook to discuss the possibility of Apple acquiring Tesla (for 1/10 of our current value). He refused to take the meeting”.

In a 2015 interview with German newspaper Handelsblatt, Elon Musk said “It’s good that Apple is moving and investing in this direction but cars are very complex compared to phones or smartwatches.”

This latest diversification move by Apple will increase its revenue and may probably spur other phone brands to venture into car production to increase their revenue source and will equip them with adequate resources to compete in the phone market.

Since Nigeria is largely a consumer nation, Nigeria will be a target market for their automobile and improved phone brands and with proper and adequate infrastructures, those phone and automobile brands could be manufactured in Nigeria to boost the country’s foreign earnings. For now, no one can say the Apple phone brand will help promote the car brands, if Apple ventures into Car manufacturing in 2024 as proposed, most people may not cherish the idea of a phone company embarking in manufacturing of self-driving cars. However, efficiency and durability can make the difference. The world however awaits Apple’s proposed moves.
